About Us

An accident and injury law firm in Queens and on Long Island

The Heller Law Firm, PC is led by attorney Norman H. Heller and handles compensation claims for people injured in accidents. The firm has offices in Ridgewood, Queens, and in Lake Success on Long Island. The firm has been in practice since 1999 and over more than two decades has helped over 1,000 individuals and families. It serves clients in Queens and in Nassau and Suffolk counties. Consultations are free and can be scheduled 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The firm’s staff speak Polish, Ukrainian, Spanish and English.

Construction accidents and Workers’ Compensation

New York law protects workers injured on construction sites, including in scaffold and ladder falls. An injured worker may be entitled to Workers’ Compensation benefits and, in some cases, to compensation from the building owner. The firm handles both, including Workers’ Compensation claims for workers left with chronic pain, such as spinal pain, after an accident.

Car accidents

New York has specific laws that protect people injured in car accidents. The firm represents people injured in crashes involving cars, trucks and motorcycles.

Medical malpractice

Medical malpractice occurs when a doctor, nurse, hospital or other health care provider fails to provide proper care and the patient is harmed as a result.

Defective products

A person injured by a defective product may be entitled to compensation for injuries and losses, whether the defect came from manufacturing, design or a missing warning.

Wrongful death

When someone dies because of another party’s fault, a wrongful death claim is brought by the personal representative of the deceased on behalf of family members who may be entitled to compensation for their losses.

Other practice areas

Mr. Heller also handles residential and commercial real estate, business law, wills and trusts, and fiduciary agreements, as well as traffic matters: DWI, tickets and violations. These matters are handled at the Lake Success office; see hellerlawpc.com. He is admitted to the New York State Bar and to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York.

Services

Construction accidents

Legal assessment after an injury on a construction site.

Review of the incident, safety measures and potential claims against parties involved in the project. Workers’ Compensation may also apply. A fall alone does not establish liability or the value of a claim.

Motor vehicle accidents

Claims for people injured in collisions or pedestrian accidents.

Assessment of injuries, records and available insurance coverage. No-fault benefits and civil liability require separate analysis. This service concerns compensation for injured people, rather than defense against a DWI charge.

Slip and fall

Assessment of responsibility for unsafe property conditions.

Review of the cause of a fall, duties concerning the property and available evidence. Specific conditions and their connection to the injury matter. An accident does not automatically establish a right to compensation.

Medical malpractice

Review of potential claims arising from medical treatment.

Assessment of records, the standard of care and a possible connection between negligence and harm. An unfavorable outcome alone does not prove malpractice. Applicable deadlines require individual review.

Product liability

Claims involving an alleged product defect.

Review of product use, documentation and the relationship between an alleged defect and injuries. A claim may concern design, manufacturing or warnings. A recall alone does not establish liability.

Workers’ Compensation

Benefits relating to a work injury or occupational illness.

Help assessing notices and documents concerning workers’ benefits. A claim against a third party requires a separate basis. The scope of representation should be confirmed during the consultation.

Real estate closings

Residential and commercial transactions and leasing.

Assistance with purchase and sale agreements, title documents and closing. The practice also includes commercial lease negotiations. The needs of buyers, sellers and tenants are assessed individually.

Business law and disputes

Business formation, agreements and commercial disputes.

Assistance with entity formation, transactions and business documents. Review of contract disputes and relationships among business owners. Formation, ongoing advice and litigation require an agreed scope of work.

Wills and estates

Documents for estate planning and business succession.

Preparation of wills, trusts and powers of attorney, and planning for asset transfers. Documents are selected according to family circumstances and asset ownership. No single document necessarily covers every asset.

DWI and traffic violations

Driver defense and traffic ticket matters.

Representation involving DWI and traffic violations, including speeding, traffic signals and leaving an accident scene. Review of documents and potential consequences for the driver, separately from an injured person’s compensation claim.

Q&A

  • Can I discuss my matter in Polish?

Yes. The firm’s staff speak Polish, Ukrainian, Spanish and English. At first contact, identify the type of matter and any urgent deadlines.

  • Where are the firm's offices?

The firm has two offices. Ridgewood (Queens), 66-24 Fresh Pond Road, 2nd Floor — accident cases, meetings by appointment (hellerpersonalinjuryny.com). Lake Success (Nassau), 3000 Marcus Avenue, Suite 1W5 — main office, Monday to Friday, 10 AM–6 PM (hellerlawpc.com). Both offices share one number: 516-441-5656.

  • Are all consultations free?

Free case evaluation applies to accident matters. Terms for real estate, business, estate planning and traffic matters must be agreed individually.

  • Does Workers’ Compensation rule out a construction accident claim?

Not always. A claim against a third party depends on the circumstances. The two avenues may require coordination of recoveries and settlement decisions.

  • Does no-fault cover every claim after a collision?

No. Treatment benefits, vehicle repairs and noneconomic damages follow different rules. The appropriate policy must be identified for the injured person.

  • Is a property owner always responsible for a fall?

No. Duties concerning the location, the hazard and its connection to the injury must be assessed. An injury alone does not establish the owner’s negligence.

  • Does unsuccessful treatment prove medical malpractice?

No. Assessment requires examining the standard of care, a possible departure from it and the connection to harm. Records and the specific circumstances matter.

  • Does a product recall mean automatic compensation?

No. The model, circumstances of use and connection between the alleged defect and injury must be examined. Safety takes priority when documenting the product.

  • When should real estate purchase documents be reviewed?

Preferably before binding commitments are made. Prepare the draft agreement, attachments, financing information and proposed dates for the consultation.

  • Does business assistance include disputes?

Yes. The firm’s practice covers business organization and commercial disputes. Agreements, correspondence and the business owner’s objectives help define the work needed.

  • Are a will and a trust the same document?

No. They have different functions and requirements. The appropriate approach depends on assets, family circumstances and planning objectives and requires individual assessment.

  • How does DWI defense differ from a collision claim?

DWI defense concerns a charge against the driver. A compensation claim concerns an injured person’s losses. They may arise from one event but require separate assessment.
