Filling out immigration forms seems simple until you receive a Request for Evidence (RFE) or a denial from USCIS. Many of my clients from New York come to me only when their case gets complicated. You can avoid this.
The devil is in the details
Immigration officers do not guess your intentions – they only evaluate what they see in the paperwork. Here is what most often goes wrong:
- Inconsistent dates and facts: If you provide a different date of entry to the USA in one application than in a previous one, the system will catch it.
- Lack of certified translations: Polish birth or marriage certificates must be translated in accordance with USCIS requirements.
- Incorrect filing fees: USCIS frequently changes rates. Sending a check for the old amount results in the immediate return of the entire package.
- Hiding your past: Even a minor offense from the past that you “forget” to mention can be considered visa fraud.
- Signature in the wrong place: It sounds trivial, but it is one of the most common reasons for applications being rejected “at the start.”
