The death of a loved one while living abroad involves a difficult decision: burial in the USA or returning to the homeland? If you are considering the latter option, the amount of paperwork may seem overwhelming. Do not worry – this process is a standard procedure that we carry out every day.
Documents required for transport
For a coffin or urn to cross the border, you need a so-called “permit for the transport of human remains and ashes” issued by the Polish Consul. You do not have to stand in lines. Transport of the deceased at Sparrow includes the preparation of:
- Death Certificate.
- Medical certificate stating the absence of infectious diseases.
- Permit from the local health department.
Coffin or urn – differences in logistics
Transporting an urn is usually cheaper and faster. The urn is transported in a special, secured container. In the case of a coffin, a special metal insert (zinc liner) and a transport crate (air tray) are required, which affects the cost of air freight.
Costs – what to pay attention to?
Many carriers provide net prices. At Sparrow, we value honesty. Our competitive price includes logistics handling and body preparation. Remember to always ask for a total cost estimate, including airport fees.
